Children + Teens
Hour Children’s continuum of services provide care and support to children and young people in an environment where love makes the difference.
In keeping with our mission of helping incarcerated and formerly incarcerated women and their children build healthy, independent and secure lives, Hour Children has developed comprehensive programs to meet the unique needs of children and young people, through every stage of growing up.
School Fun is open to Hour Children families and families from the wider community, and serves school-aged children, ages 4 through 12. Services are available Monday through Friday from 2:30 PM to 6:00 PM during the school year. With a capacity of 30 children, School Fun includes pick-up service at selected local schools, daily homework help, academic support, music, art, STEM activities, cooking, recreational and cultural trips, and free play.
Summer Fun enrolls school-aged children who live at Hour Children and is also open to families from the wider community. Led by qualified year-round staff and employing energetic seasonal counselors, Summer Fun promises a fun-filled July and August, filled with activity, trips, and enrichment.
Hour Teen Scene provides enrichment and support for young people, ages 12 through 18. A “positive community for positive young people”, the group meets each Tuesday from 4:30 PM to 7:00 PM. Teens from Hour Children and the wider community come together for food, conversation, and activities ranging from financial literacy workshops and service projects to art and team-building games. Equally as important, they help one another navigate the challenges of adolescence and build lasting friendships.
