Donors and volunteers make Hour Children’s work possible. Thank you for your interest in learning more about us!
Founded more than 25 years ago, Hour Children® was named to acknowledge the important hours that shape the life of a child with an incarcerated mother – the hour of their mother’s arrest, the hour of their visit, and the hour of her release. The organization’s vision is to end the cycle of inter-generational incarceration. Our mission is to help incarcerated and formerly incarcerated women and their children successfully rejoin the community, reunify with their families, and build healthy, independent, and secure lives.
Community-based programs include: supportive housing; a comprehensive employment training and placement program; case management and therapeutic services; mentoring; mentoring for adults and children with incarcerated parents; a fully-licensed daycare center and an after-school program that free women so they can go to work or school; three thrift shops; and, a community food pantry. In-prison programming includes: transportation and visitation services; parenting education; mental health support for women, children, and families; a Teen Program; advocacy; and, a residential Nursery unit.
