Hour Early Learning Program (HELP)
The Hour Early Learning Program is a licensed Daycare Center opened Monday through Friday from 7:30 am- 6:00 pm. Over the last year, we have branched out our early childhood program offering to families in our Long Island City community. Hour Early Learning Program’s goal each year is to help every child grow cognitively, socially and emotionally to his/her fullest potential.
We serve infants (as young as 3 days old) to 4 year olds. We have three rooms – an Infant Room, Toddler Room and Pre-School Room. We are an HRA Approved Program for qualifying low income families.
Our program provides meals and snacks that account for a large portion of your child’s daily food requirement. We receive state funding from Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) to serve a wholesome variety of foods daily.
Each year, all children in our programs will engage in activities that will support development of the following areas:
- Positive self-concept & high self–esteem
- Age appropriate social / emotional and self–sufficiency skills
- Problem solving and independent thinking skills appropriate for their developmental age
- Overall literacy skills including recognizing symbols, creative expression, language enhancement, and the ability to articulate conceptual thinking
- Physical strengths in both large and small motor coordination
- Good health, safety and nutritional practices
Providing Developmentally Appropriate Environments

There are several functional areas in the early childhood classrooms, which are specifically designed and equipped to promote the development of children. They are as follows: art, sensory exploration, math, science, blocks, listening & reading center, music, family play area and tabletop toys. In addition to meeting the aforementioned educational goals, these areas help children to develop the following:
- Language & listening skills
- Eye hand coordination
- Reading and math readiness
- Social Interaction
- Social studies & geography relevant to their everyday lives
- Basic scientific experimentation and exploration of their environments
We promote understanding and respect for the ethnic and cultural diversity of the children, their families and the staff in our program. Our program exposes children to the different cultural traditions of the diverse ethnic
groups represented in our program. This is consistent with the goals of fostering pro-social behavior and preparing the children to live in today’s diverse society.
